The Cackling is a writing & performing arts collective that produces work by and for (mostly) BIPOC women – cis and trans women, 35+.
It is a homing call and battle cry to our sisters and siblings to gather, to create, to hunt, and to tear the flesh off white male narratives that have confined and erased us.
We make audiences uncomfortable with the status quo, create safe & confrontational experiences, and widen the lens through which we see the world.
But was is it, really?
Basically, a support group to help creative women get sh*t done. We are committed to supporting, promoting, and helping produce each other’s work.

What’s In A Name?
The Cackling is based on the nomenclature: a cackle of hyenas. It evokes their frightening and maniacal laughter, witches, hysteria, and scary stories. In advertisements, among friends and family, women are constantly told to be less, to iron out all the wrinkles. Our collective embraces all the aspects of our evolution, no matter how challenging, with non-judgment and acceptance.
The verb form, “Cackling” prioritizes action, invites participation, and centers the present moment.
